Supporting the next generation of China scholars

China is one of the world’s largest economies.  Whether viewed as an existential threat to the democratic West or a successful model for raising a peasant society out of poverty, there is no question that China is a nation whose past and present must be studied and understood. The Esherick-Ye Foundation is devoted to supporting research on the modern history and ancient archaeology of China. It is committed to supporting systematic, empirically based, original research in these fields in the conviction that only by understanding a society’s past can we fully understand a nation’s present.
